Mayor Oscar B. Goodman has been known to place the occasional wager, and this weekend he will be supporting the UNLV Rebels as they take on the University of Nevada Wolf Pack.
Mayor Goodman and Reno Mayor Bob Cashell have made their annual wager for the rivalry game that is set to take place this Saturday, Oct. 3, at Reno’s Mackay Stadium. The losing mayor will be forced to display the helmet of the winning team in a prominent place during an upcoming City Council meeting, as well as wear the winning team’s jersey, and pay $500 to the winner’s charity of choice.
“Last year I was on the losing side of the bet, but this year I’m certain that Mayor Cashell will be wearing a UNLV jersey and helmet at a Reno City Council meeting,” Mayor Goodman said. "And new this year to our wager, a charity will be the winning end, as they will receive $500 from the loser."
The Rebels have two wins, and two losses so far this season, with each of those losses coming in very close games. UNR is 0-3. Mayors Goodman and Cashell have also had friendly bets going over their city's professional baseball teams, the Las Vegas 51s and the Reno Aces. At the end of the season the teams had tied in the number of wins against each other, so the mayors will use an old Nevada standard by cutting cards to settle the bet. Once again, the loser will give money to the winner’s charity of choice.
