The Las Vegas Wind Quintet’s members, clarinetist Dave Hawley, flutist Sherrie Parker, bassoonist Sam Pisciotta, horn player Doug Beasley, and oboe and English horn player Mika Brunson, enjoy sharing their love of classical music with the community. On Sundays, March 23 and April 20, they will perform free concerts beginning at 3 p.m. in the theater at the Charleston Heights Arts Center, 800 S. Brush St.
The March program includes “Scherzo Pour Quintette a Vent Op. 48” by Eugene Bozza, “Two Miniatures for Wind Quintet” by Benjamin Lees, Carl August Nielsen’s “Kvintet, Op. 43”, a Geoffrey Emerson arrangement of Haydn’s “Opus 42 in D Minor,” and “Sonatine” by Marcel Bitsch. The April concert will feature guest pianist Barbara Riske.
Both concerts are presented by the Arts & Community Events Division of the city of Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services. Music is provided by a grant from the Music Performance Fund and obtained with the cooperation of the Musicians Union of Las Vegas Local No. 369 of the American Federation of Musicians.
The arts center hosts a variety of concerts, dances, theatrical productions and classes in dance, music and youth drama each year. Coming March 15 is a St. Patrick’s Dance with music by the Carl Grove Combo. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 the day of the event. Registration for the next six-week session of classes opens on March 29.
