City of Las Vegas To Retain Its Top Rating In The National Flood Insurance Program Community Rating System
Rating Qualifies Homeowners For Significant Discount In Flood Insurance

Local consumers and safety advocates received important news from the federal government. The city of Las Vegas has been notified by the Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), that it will retain its current rating as a Class 6 community in the National Flood Insurance Program Community Rating System. The retention of the rating is due to the city’s flood mitigation and public safety efforts to protect lives and reduce property damage.

The rating results in a 20 percent discount in flood insurance for city of Las Vegas homeowners.

Some of the highlights include:

• All of the community’s drainage system is inspected regularly throughout the year and maintenance is performed as needed by the Las Vegas Public Works department.
• The Public Works Department maintains elevation certificates for new and substantially improved buildings.
• The city provides flood information through public service announcements on KCLV Channel 2 and other programming in coordination with the Clark County Regional Flood Control District.
