General information about the incident:  A male in his mid 70’s was home in the restroom near the garage when he heard noises coming from the garage. He noticed light smoke coming around the door from the interior of the house to the garage. When he opened the door, he noticed the garage was full of smoke. At the time he opened the door, Fire Investigators believe he let an influx of oxygen into the garage which caused the fire to flash. At the same time the man turned away and received serious burns to his back, neck, both arms and head. He was able to talk to paramedics on scene and to investigators at the hospital, but his condition deteriorated and he died last week. Firefighters could see a column of thick black smoke in the sky as they left the fire station, when they arrived on scene, the garage was fully involved. They were able to bring the fire under control and keep it from destroying the interior of the home. The man said he lived in the house for over 20 years. The exact cause of the fire is undetermined. This was the fifth fire fatality for the city of Las Vegas for the year. A school teacher died in her home this week during a fire in the northwest part of the city, the sixth fire fatality this year in the city.
