General information about the incident: Fire investigators believe that a build up of lint in and around a natural gas clothes dryer caught fire. Occupants stated that it seemed that it was taking longer and longer for clothes to dry. This is a good indication that the exhaust hose from the dryer to the vent outside the house may be blocked with accumulated lint. Another problem it causes is the vent is used to vent poisonous carbon monoxide gas from the heating unit inside the dryer which can cause people to get sick or be over come by the gas. Lint trays should be cleaned out after every time the dryer is used and duct work should be cleaned every few years. Not only does it prevent a potential fire, it allows the dryer to work more efficiently, saving energy and money.
Light smoke was inside the house when firefighters arrived, the house was evacuated. It only took a minute to bring the situation under control. An adult woman (mother) was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. No one else was injured.
