General information about the incident:   The occupant of the house was using a propane barbecue on the patio to the rear of the house. He just put some food on it to cook, left the meat cooking and went inside the kitchen to get other things together. Within a few minutes he heard a noise outside and went to see what it was.  Fire and smoke was coming from around the barbecue. Within seconds the hose from the propane tank to the barbecue caught fire and broke, making the fire more intense and putting extreme heat on the propane tank. Within a few minutes the propane tank exploded making for an extremely hot fire. The fire broke out a window on the rear of the house and also on a rear door. The fire entered the kitchen through the broken windows just as firefighters arrived on the scene. Heavy smoke and flames was showing when firefighters arrived on scene. They had the fire out in just a few minutes. The fire did extensive damage to the rear of the house and gutted the kitchen. The rest of the house had heavy heat and smoke damage. Although it was an intense fire, no one was injured. The barbecue was approximately four feet from the house, but firefighters say if the barbecue was further from the house, because of the intensity of the fire, there still would have been damage and the fire might have threatened other houses. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced family of four.
