American Red Cross: No Pets: None Status of pets: General information about the incident: Waste basket fire in a guest room on the 15th floor. No one was in the room at the time of the fire. A smoke alarm activated in the room next door, maintenance and security responded to the room. They found a small waste basket on fire against the wall in the bathroom. The fire did not get a chance to get large enough to activate the automatic fire sprinkler in the room. Employees used two fire extinguishers to put the fire out. Six people complained of smoke inhalation, they were checked out by paramedics on scene and released. Damage was confined to a small part of the wall and the waste basket. Cause of fire may have been smoking related. Cigarette ashes were found in another waste basket in the same room. Accidental cause.
