General information about the incident:   A neighbor called 9-1-1 to report smoke coming from the roof of a house just before Noon today. When firefighters arrived a short time later, they entered the home and found the fire had occurred in the kitchen. The fire had burned itself out, possibly due to a lack of sufficient oxygen. The fire damage was confined to the kitchen area around the stove and the cabinets above and next to it. The rest of the house had smoke damage. A neighbor told fire investigators that they noticed smoke coming from the house and could hear the smoke alarms activated. The occupant told fire investigators that he had previously used the stove to cook food and left about a half hour prior to the time that 9-1-1 operators received the first call. Fire investigators ruled the fire accidental. There were no reported injuries. The occupant did not request assistance from the American Red Cross. Two pets died during the incident.

Kitchen fires are the leading cause of fires both in the United States and Las Vegas as well as being the leading cause of fire related injuries in both places also. Never leave food cook unattended, and periodically check the knobs on the stove throughout the day and when you leave home to ensure they are in the off position.
