The Las Vegas City Council will recognize Leif Erikson Day at the Wednesday, Oct. 3, City Council meeting that will begin at 9 a.m. in City Hall council chambers, located at 495 S. Main St.
There are more than 52,000 Southern Nevadans of Scandinavian descent, and the members of the Vegas Viking Lodge will be on hand to celebrate Leif Erikson day in traditional Viking garb.
Mayor Pro Tem Stavros S. Anthony will recognize the October Citizen of the Month, Wayne Tew. Tew is a Ward 4 resident, who is a leader in his church, a local businessman and philanthropist.
In addition, Councilman Ricki Y. Barlow will recognize a group of Ward 5 residents who have committed themselves to making Las Vegas a better place to live.
Councilman Bob Coffin is scheduled to recognize the Italian American Club of Southern Nevada.
Also, Councilman Steven D. Ross is scheduled to recognize Dwarfism Awareness Month.
The City Council will also recognize Community Planning Month, an annual celebration of the benefits of proper planning in our community.
