The Las Vegas City Council will recognize the Great Nevada Shakeout Earthquake Drill at the Wednesday, Oct. 17, City Council meeting that will begin following the 8:30 a.m. Redevelopment Agency meeting in City Hall council chambers, located at 495 S. Main St.
The Great Nevada Shakeout is an earthquake drill that hundreds of thousands of Clark County School District students and residents statewide will participate in. The City Council will recognize those involved in planning the drill designed to improve emergency preparedness in the community.
The City Council meeting will begin with kindergartners from the Meadows School performing the National Anthem.
Councilwoman Lois Tarkanian is scheduled to recognize the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation and R&R Partners for supporting Spirit Day, an annual day in October when millions of Americans wear purple to speak out against bullying and to show support for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth.
In addition, Councilman Bob Coffin, will recognize National Cyber Security Awareness Month, and those working to keep people safe from cyber crime.
Also, Councilman Steven D. Ross, will recognize Teen Driver Awareness Month.
Councilman Bob Beers will recognize the efforts of a citizen and the Clark County-Las Vegas Library District o work toward finding a compromise on a proposal to increase library fees.
Finally the City Council will also recognize the Senior of the Quarter and the Employee of the Month.
