Councilman Bob Coffin will host a ceremony to officially dedicate the renamed Gary Reese Freedom Park on Monday, Dec. 10, at 10 a.m. at 850 N. Mojave Road.
On May 16, 2012, the Las Vegas City Council approved the renaming of the park to include recognition of former Ward 3 Councilman Gary Reese. Reese has remained committed to the betterment of the community for many years, including his 16 years as a Las Vegas councilman serving Ward 3, where the park is located.
The park was constructed in 1972 and named Freedom Park after all those who have served in the military. The park will now be named for the veterans of Las Vegas as well as Reese, who is scheduled to attend the dedication ceremony.
The nearly 69-acre park is among the largest regional parks in the city, and is also home to the Big League Dreams Sports Park and the Carlos L. Martinez and Darrio J. Hall Family Pool. The park also features a skate park, playgrounds, picnic areas, horseshoe courts and a fitness course among other amenities.
