Vacant House Fire Under Investigation
Investigators Believe Squatters May Have Been Staying In House

Las Vegas firefighters responded to 238 S. 17th St. at 3:12 Sunday morning after a neighbor reported flames and smoke coming from a vacant downtown house. Firefighters arrived on scene and found flames beginning to come through the roof of the one-story wood frame house.

It took firefighters approximately 15 minutes to douse the flames. Damage was confined to the one home. There was extensive damage to the home. Damage is estimated at $50,000.

Utilities were disconnected to the house. The house was also boarded up. Firefighters found one door on the rear of the house that was unsecured. It appeared to fire investigators that squatters or homeless people have been staying in the house.

The incident remains under investigation. There were no reported injuries during the incident.
