The City Council will recognize April Pools Day to raise awareness about water safety as we near the summer months at the Wednesday, April 3, City Council meeting that will begin at 9 a.m. in City Hall council chambers, located at 495 S. Main St.
The annual event is spearheaded by the Southern Nevada Child Drowning Prevention Coalition and the group’s chairman, Gregory Blackburn, will be on hand to accept a proclamation from Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman.
The City Council will also recognize the residents who have graduated from the annual Citizens Academy of Planning. The academy provides residents the opportunity to see how the planning process works, and how complicated zoning issues are resolved.
In addition, Councilman Bob Coffin will recognize Miriam L. Hickerson as the April Citizen of the Month. Hickerson has worked closely with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s HART (Hispanic American Resource Team) Program and regularly assists the Latino community.
The City Council will also recognize the Eurogymnastics Club that meets and trains at the city’s Veterans Memorial Leisure Services Center.
Finally, the City Council will recognize a group of city employees who exemplified the organizations values when they quickly helped a colleague to get the emergency medical assistance she needed.
