Additional Closure On Grand Teton In Northwest Las Vegas Due To Runoff From Spring Mountains
Motorists Advised To Use Caution

4 p.m.

Runoff from rain taking place in the Spring Mountains has caused an additional road closure in Northwest Las Vegas. Grand Teton is now closed from Grand Canyon to Oso Blanca.

Grand Teton Drive remains closed from Quail View to Rainbow Boulevard. In addition, Rainbow is closed from Grand Teton to Farm. Farm is also closed from Rainbow to Tenaya.

Drivers should also avoid the intersections of Grand Teton and Tee Pee, and Grand Teton and Grand Canyon. Alternate routes include Gilcrease and Racel.

These roadways have become flooded with a black, mucky combination of water, ash and soot. This is an extremely slippery mixture, and if driven through, is much like driving on ice. Motorists are encouraged to avoid driving through these flows—it is simply very dangerous.

City crews are working to mitigate the flooding.

Dry conditions in the valley don’t necessarily mean dry conditions in the Spring Mountains. Rain in the Spring Mountains can cause flows of ash and soot, which can reach our roads in Northwest Las Vegas.

Stay up-to-date on road conditions and alert us to issues of black muck affecting the roadways on Twitter at twitter.com/cityoflasvegas, or by using #lvroads.
