Mayor’s Vision Of Downtown Urban Village Begins To Take Shape Mayor Goodman has been a champion of downtown revitalization, focusing his efforts on creating a downtown urban village. That vision continues to take shape as work progresses on the 61-acre Union Park. City officials and representatives from Newland Communities recently celebrated the beginning of a new chapter in our city’s history as infrastructure work commenced on Union Park, the 61-acre, mixed-use master-planned urban center in the heart of downtown Las Vegas. The initial phase of work will take place on the southern portion of the 61 acres from Discovery Drive to Bonneville Avenue and is expected to take seven months. During the last year, the City Council has been busy preparing for the beginning of this infrastructure work. Last April, the council authorized $40 million in funding for the first phase of infrastructure of Union Park and approved a development agreement for the The Smith Center for the Performing Arts |
