Important Travel Notice
Effective June 2009, U.S. citizens must present a valid U.S. Passport Book, U.S. Passport Card or other travel document approved by the Department of Homeland Security, when entering the United States from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda at land border crossings or sea ports-of-entry.

The city of Las Vegas now offers U.S. Passport services through its City Clerk’s office. Passport applications are accepted on the first floor City Hall, located at 400 Stewart Ave. between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Please review the information below to make sure that you bring all necessary documents and fees. Fees payable to the U.S. Department of State must be by check, money order or cashiers check only. The separate execution fee to the city of Las Vegas may be cash, check, credit/debit card or money order.

Current processing time for passports -  The processing time for a passport is currently six weeks. Expedited service is taking between two and three weeks.

You must apply in person for a U.S. Passport if:

• You are applying for your first U.S. Passport or
• You are under age 16 (both parents must accompany minor) or 
• Your previous U.S. passport was issued when you were under age 16 or
• Your previous U.S. passport was lost, stolen or damaged or
• Your previous U.S. passport was issued more than 15 years ago or
• Your name has changed since your U.S. passport was issued and you are unable to legally document your name change.

Steps For First Time Applicants

Step 1 - Complete and Submit Form DS-11
When applying for a U.S. Passport, you must:

• Complete Form DS-11
• Apply in person at an acceptance facility or Passport Agency
• Must include the additional documentation
• Must not sign the application until instructed to do by the acceptance agent
• Must provide your Social Security number

Step 2 – Submit Evidence of U.S. Citizenship
Evidence of U.S. Citizenship must be submitted with Form DS-11. These documents will be returned to you with your newly-issued U.S. Passport or in a separate mailing. These include:

• Previously issued, undamaged U.S. passport
• Certified birth certificate issued by the city, county or state – this has a registrar’s raised embossed, impressed or multicolored seal, registrar’s signature, and the date the certificate was filed with the registrar’s office, which must be within 1 year of your birth. Abstracts are not accepted.
• Consular report of birth abroad or Certification of Birth
• Naturalization Certificate

Step 3 - Submit Identification
When applying for a U.S. passport in person, acceptable identification must be presented at the time of application.

• Previously issued, undamaged U.S. Passport
• Naturalization Certificate
• Valid Driver’s License
• Current government identification (city, state or federal)
• Current military identification

Step 4 – Submit Photos
You must submit two photos. These photos must be:

• Identical
• Color
• 2 by 2 inches
• Taken within the past six months
• Between 1 inch and 1 3/8 inches from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head

Photo service is available for a $10 fee.

Application and expedite (if applicable) fees should be made paybale to the U.S. Department of State and must be in the form of a check or money order/cashiers check only. Execution fees are payable to the city of Las Vegas and can be in the form of a check, money order, cash or credit card.

Expedited service can be requested for a $60 additional fee. Customers wishing to pay overnight shipping for their application to the processing facility must be processed before 1 p.m. Overnight shipping is an additional charge of $15.20 each way. Customers may choose to overnight their application or to have the processing facility overnight the passport back to the customer or both. Applications not being mailed overnight will be sent by priority mail.

* This fee is not charged if applying for a Passport Card in conjunction with a Passport Book.
