City Council Meetings

When and where are the City Council meetings?
City Council meets the first and third Wednesday of each month and for special meetings as called by the Mayor or two Council members. The Council meets in the Council Chambers on the 2nd flor of City Hall, 495 S. Main St. Special meetings may be held elsewhere and the location address is provided on the agenda for that meeting. 

How can I find out what the City Council will be discussing?
See the "Meetings and Agendas" link for agendas for specific meetings. The agendas will provide a summary of each item to be addressed during the meeting.

When will the City Council agenda be ready?
The agenda for all public meetings are posted and available by 9 a.m. three working days prior to the meeting. For City Council, barring any holidays, this would be the Friday prior to the council meeting.

How may I receive the City Council agenda by mail?
You may call the City Clerk’s office at (702) 229-6311 to request that you be placed on the mailing list for mailing or by email. For immediate access, all agendas are available on the City Clerk’s site the same day they are mailed under a related page “Meetings and Agendas."

How can I speak in front of the City Council? Do I need to fill out a form?
No, simply attend the meeting and speak when the item is called.  However, public address of non-public hearing items, even though they may be discussion items, is governed by the chair (Mayor). You may advise the City Clerk prior to the meeting that you wish to speak or you may always speak under the citizens participation portion of the meeting.

Are City Council meetings televised?
Yes, they are televised live, available live on the city’s Web site and rebroadcast following the meeting.

What happens if I miss a meeting?
A rebroadcast of City Council meetings can be seen on KCLV Channel 2. If it is no longer being aired, audio and video tape copies are available from the City Clerk’s office. 

Where can I obtain an audio or VHS tape of the current meeting?
The duplicate audio ($3) or video tapes ($5) can be provided upon request to the City Clerk’s office. Video tapes are produced in real time and subject to scheduling considerations and therefore requestors will be contacted for pick up once the tape has been reproduced.

Where can I obtain a copy of a proposed bill?
Copies are available from the City Clerk in electronic format and may be e-mailed or faxed as well as picked up in hard copy from the Clerk’s office. Also, on the City’s website under Meetings and Agendas under the Recommending Committee meeting, all bills are linked as back up documentation under the individual item on the agenda.

How do I file a claim against the city? Where do I get the form?

Where do I register as a lobbyist?
You register with the City Clerk’s office by completing a form. The City Clerk has a related page under construction where further information will be available, including a lobbyist form. In the meantime, please contact the City Clerk’s office at (702) 229-6311 for further assistance.
