The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) has provided numerous opportunities for cities across the country to invest in projects that promote sustainability by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, reducing energy costs, and creating jobs. On May 19, 2010, former President Bill Clinton joined with Mayor Oscar B. Goodman to attend the grand opening of a 46-year old, 11-story office tower in downtown Las Vegas. 302 Carson is the first retrofitted building in the state of Nevada to be awarded Gold certification under the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Rating System.

Green Chips
The city of Las Vegas is entering into a pilot program with Green Chips , a nonprofit organization, to perform energy audits and retrofits for 10 qualifying low income households and The Shade Tree shelter, at no cost to the participants. This new program allots up to $800 per home for residential energy audits and up to $5,500 per home for needed energy retrofits and improvements. Up to $2,000 is allocated for the non-profit organization energy audit, with a maximum of $18,000 available to implement energy retrofits. More …
